BERTO FOR SCHEPERS BOSMAN

Do you remember the exact moment when you decided to become a fashion designer?
Anne: I’ve always drawn since I was young and wanted to attend art school. During the open days, I realized that fashion was one of the most creative disciplines, but it also had an interesting combination of design and craftsmanship.
Sanne: There wasn’t a precise moment when I decided to become a designer. Initially, I wanted to be a musician, but then after visiting ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, I decided to enroll. Now designing is my job, but I still don’t know if I’m truly a designer.

The interaction between all creative minds is the foundation of our work. We design by doing.

What was your first project?
The Fall/Winter 2017 collection was our first project created entirely together. We literally combined our ideas to create new results.

The creative process: do you work instinctively or plan every single step? Where do your ideas come from?
Whoever has the first idea starts working on it. But there’s always an exchange between us and those around us: artists, musicians, students. The interaction between all creative minds is the foundation of our work. We design by doing.

What did you think when Berto contacted you?
We enjoy working with denim; it’s a genuine and versatile material. Berto is one of the most modern and progressive companies in the industry, and it’s a great honor to collaborate with them.

Which Berto fabrics have you worked with for your project and collections?
Globe Carbon One Black!

What do you consider the most significant part of Berto for Talents? What goals have you been able to achieve thanks to this program?
Thanks to Berto and the high quality of their materials, we can realize our design dreams.
Moreover, this initiative strongly demonstrates their confidence in our future.

“Less but better” can be read as an endorsement of a certain degree of purity in design as well as in fashion design. It can also be understood as an environmental message about reduction and sustainability. What do you think?
Totally agree. “Less but better” isn’t just a statement for us; it’s part of our mindset. However, we believe it’s necessary to frequently communicate this message to gain awareness and followers.

Is there something you’ve never done that you’d like to accomplish?
Many things! Create our own book about design, fabrics, furniture, buildings.

Architects, more than designers.

What was your first project? We began by studying the forms of a natural phenomenon called 'calanchi' - long, thin, and deep furrows created by water erosion, typical of clay soils. We studied and verified the natural modulations of these prodigies, translating them...
