BERTO FOR ST BEEX

Do you remember the exact moment when you decided to become a fashion designer?
My attraction to fashion has been with me since I was young, but becoming a fashion designer didn’t seem possible, so I decided to pursue a career in financial services. The idea of designing clothes came to me while studying Accounting at university.

We contacted Berto after discovering their fabrics. When we saw them, a spark of creativity and joy ignited within us!

What was your first project?
My first project was the result of my initial fashion design idea, which was to create eye-catching fitted casual tops for young men. I named it Marteino, after my middle name.

The creative process: do you work instinctively or plan every single step? Where do your ideas come from?
My creative process is both instinctive and structured. I always start with a message or emotion I wish to convey, and that message is usually influenced by my surroundings. I always strive to create in a positive environment, with the desire to evoke an emotional reaction in the customer. When seeking ideas, I prefer to be surrounded by nature, where inspiration and possibilities are at their purest and most unique.

What did you think when Berto contacted you?
We contacted Berto after discovering their fabrics. When we saw them, a spark of creativity and joy ignited within us.

Which Berto fabrics have you worked with for your project and collections?
We worked with their selvedge denim, particularly with Sandal Herringbone and Seawater.

“Less but better” can be interpreted as an endorsement of a certain degree of purity in design and fashion design. It can also be understood as an environmental message about reduction and sustainability. What are your thoughts on this?
“Less but better” is one of the main messages of our brand, and we often use the term “slow fashion.” I believe that conscious consumption is an important concept that should be adopted by textile producers, in an era where we are aware of the risks our planet faces.

Is there something you’ve never done that you’d like to accomplish?
We are in the growth phase of our brand, so there is much to explore and create. In particular, we would like to explore the possibility of undertaking exclusive collaborations with Berto.
