Ian also had the opportunity to participate in our special RECYCROM project, created with our fabrics and a lot of creativity. Below is his comment on this Indigo experience between art and sustainability.
“Juan Manuel collaborated with Officina39 and Berto Industria Tessile who presented RECYCROM for the first time, a project that effectively uses remnants, reprocessing waste and transforming textile fibers into colored powder. An excellent result for both companies that introduced a new era for dyes.
Juan Manuel gave expression to this set of industrial elements thanks to his unlimited creativity that brought the Recycrom product to life. The fabric was his canvas and the indigo powder his brush. His daily work takes place in a denim laundry in Colombia and as I have long maintained, many people I have met who work in laundries are true artists as well as chemists. Juan Manuel has taken this step forward, using all his skills to do this impressive work.
Rubbing, engraving, marking, dipping, disassembling, bleaching, blocking, inking, dyeing, printing and working with laser, all with this 100% recycled color. He also made bags, and the one I took I think will remain untouched as I want to frame it.
Juan Manuel is a talented guy and, most importantly, wonderful. We’ve known each other for a while, but this trip really cemented our relationship. I can’t wait for our next meeting. (He was so good that he even accompanied me to watch my football team at 6 am in a NY bar… we lost).”
