Starting this fall, as part of “The Dyneema Project”, Berto has partnered with DSM Dyneema to promote and facilitate innovation in premium denim. The first result of this collaboration is a patent-pending technology that leads to an almost indestructible denim fabric. The ultra-lightweight Dyneema® fiber is up to 15 times stronger than steel and up to 40% stronger by weight than aramid fiber. This has allowed us to create a lightweight, high-strength denim by blending Dyneema® with natural products like cotton, achieving performance up to 7 times better than typical jeans and jacket combinations. “Denim with Dyneema® is so strong and abrasion-resistant that it becomes the ideal fabric for extremely heavy applications or extreme sports,” says Giovanni Henssen, Business Development Manager at DSM Dyneema. Fabrics made with Dyneema® are called Amstrong and are not only extremely durable, but thanks to the typical characteristics of indigo canvas, they will age without compromising performance. The real innovation is that the color fades without affecting performance.
