According to the American version, the tuxedo officially originated in 1886, when tobacco industrialist Griswold Lorillard wore it for the first time to the Tuxedo Club in New Jersey, from which it took the name &#8220;Tuxedo&#8221; or &#8220;Tux.&#8221; For the British, however, its origin is attributed to the tailoring of Henry Poole &amp; Co, which in 1865 created a short smoking jacket for the Prince of Wales, Edward VII, by cutting the tails off a tailcoat.
